Samui Plus plan to generate B180m

The government expects to generate 180 million baht in tourism related revenue from the Samui Plus Model during its first month of re-opening.

Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, spokesman of the Centre for Economic Situation Administration (CESA), said about 1,000 foreign tourists are expected to travel to Samui island under the Samui Plus Model by Aug 15.

He said most are from Europe and the Middle East and they are travelling with family members. “We will receive about 180 million baht in revenue from the Samui Plus Model over one month,” he said.

The Samui Plus Model kicked off on Thursday and covers Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. It heralds those islands’ reopening to tourism. However, unlike the Phuket Sandbox, tourists are required to stay in alternative local quarantine (ALQ) for the first seven days.
