River Khwae Skywalk opens, closes, reopens due to shoe shortage

After opening with great pomp and closing a day later because it lacked enough shoe cozies, a new skywalk attraction along the Khwae Yai River in Kanchanaburi province is welcoming visitors again this afternoon.

A local official said they had secured enough desperately needed cloth cozies to reverse the abrupt closure of the all-glass skywalk blamed on the first day’s unexpected number of visitors.

“We’ve received a supply of shoes today, but will restock by Thursday, which is when people will have to pay for them again,” a woman answering the phone at City Hall said.

To alleviate the slipper crisis, visitors may just borrow them for free instead of paying THB60 for ones that can be taken home.

The Song Kwae Maeklong Skywalk, which runs 12 meters above ground level and spans 150 meters, offers views of the confluence of the Kwai Yai and Kwai Noi…
