Retirees in Thailand, how much is your monthly/yearly budget?

Inspired by the post about retirement below. I’m wondering how much do you all budget your living expenses for retiring in Thailand? I know everyone has different preferences and lifestyles, so the range can be huge. But that should give anyone who is looking to retire in Thailand some realistic numbers and what to expect.

For me, I plan to retire early in Thailand within 5-10 years. I have a dual US/Thai citizen, so I won’t need a visa. All my family are in Bangkok, but I do plan to live independently with my wife (no kid) renting a place in Bangkok too.

I asked my Thai friends and they said to live comfortably, you need about 200,000 baht a month. Personally, I don’t think I need that much. But hey, they would know more than me. So here are my rough monthly estimate:

* Housing: 40,000-50,000 baht
* Food and household: 15,000 baht
* Travel: 12,000 baht a month (to take 1-2 big trips a year)
* Internet/mobile: 3,000 baht
* Health Insurance & expenses: 5,000 baht
* Misc (transportation, pet, electronics, etc): 10,000 baht.

The total of my plan ended up being 100,000 baht a month. So I guess the rest are “buffer.”

I’m curious what’s yours?
