Remember: Spraying water on people who don’t want it can get you fined or jailed

According to Section 397 of the Criminal Code,

>Whoever, in a public place or before the public, does, by any means whatever to annoy or bully the other person, or causes the other person to be ashamed or troubled, shall be punished with imprisonment not exceeding one month or fined not exceeding one thousand baht, or both.

Spraying water on people who don’t want to get wet on Songkran also falls under this section, and you could very well be fined or jailed.

Additionally, if that water damages someone’s property, that falls under Section 420 of the Civil and Commercial Code,

>A person who, willfully or negligently, unlawfully injures the life, body, health, liberty, property or any right of another person, is said to commit a wrongful act and is bound to make compensation therefore.

The compensation mentioned is either imprisonment not exceeding 3 years, fine not exceeding 60,000 baht, or both.

Be careful out there with your water guns or buckets of water, and Happy Songkran!

Edit: This was just a fun fact I saw on Thai articles and thought would be nice to translate. Didn’t think it would get downvoted this much, but oh well!

Here are the articles:

I’ll just keep in mind next time that this subreddit doesn’t really like fun facts and technicalities about laws in this country.
