Hi all,
It seems that Chiang Mai is the home to a tonne of Elephant Sanctuaries so I pencilled that in as the place to go to visit one.
Whilst researching I found an abundance of options, I didn’t realise there were so many. I checked out some reviews and while most have 90% plus positive reviews, almost all that I found have some negative ones that say something along the lines of: ‘not a real sanctuary, aggressive and violent mahouts etc’.
Does anyone know a really good one that’s actually ethical?
I’d love to experience an elephant sanctuary, but don’t want to do it at the expense of an elephant’s happiness. Thanks.
Also, second question: is it possible to bath elephants at an actual sanctuary or is this a tourist trap experience where elephants are unhappy.
TLDR: There’s sooo many elephant sanctuaries in Chaing Mai. Which are the ethical ones?
