PSA: Traffic tickets now payable via QR code

I dunno if this was common knowledge as I havent gotten a ticket in ages, but today I got checkpointed on my bike at northeast corner of moat.

I pulled over casually and greeted the officers in thai. I thought my papers were in order, but my tax sticker is actually expired by 1 month, which I didn’t know myself. The officer checking me was a total trainee. And another officer came over with an orange ticket printer/handheld…. computer thing.

I chatted to him, asked him how many days the ticket gives me to rectify the situation. He then trained the cop that pulled me over to use the ticket printer. This took a while, but after like 10 mins it spit out a 200THB ticket with 2 QR codes at the bottom, one for payment and one to check the ticket status.

Anyways. I found it interesting and pretty encouraging that they are very openly not taking cash bribes anymore. Although i’m sure they still will, depending on how much of a rube they clock you as.
