Prisoner job training scheme will help factories desperate for labour

Prisoners nearing the end of their sentences will be given a chance to train at factories under a plan to teach them work skills and at the same time help companies desperate for labour.

The initiative, by Justice Minister Somsak Thepsutin, involves building industrial estates where companies can run production facilities staffed by inmates nearing the end of their prison terms.

The plan is intended to help convicts shed the stigma of having been in prison, with possibly ready employment upon their release.
