Prisoner Escapes from Nonthaburi Prison’s Welfare Coffee Shop, Arrested Hours Later






Nonthaburi—

On December 11th, 2023, a 44-year-old prisoner escaped while working at a prison welfare coffee shop at the Nonthaburi Provincial Prison.

The prisoner was publicly identified as Mr. Kriangkrai Wimonphim who was sentenced to 3 years and 9 months for drug possession for sales. According to a report by Nonthaburi prison officers, Kriangkrai would be released on March 22nd, 2024.
Nonthaburi prison officers inspected CCTV footage and discovered that Kriangkrai worked at the prison welfare coffee shop, he reportedly found clothes from a trash bin before taking out the trash and fleeing by tuk-tuk, said the police.

At 4:30 PM, on December 11th, 2023, the Nonthaburi police captured Kriangkrai as he was waiting at a bus stop on Prachachuen-Nonthaburi Road, Mueang Nonthaburi.
Mr. Kloyut Panasan, the Commander of Nonthaburi Provincial Prison, publicly stated that Kriangkrai was an excellent prisoner working at the prison welfare coffee shop for one year.

After the investigation, Kriangkrai reportedly said to the police that he was tense and had a short temper as he found a shirt in the trash bin. Without prior preparation, Kriangkrai attempted to escape, said Kloyut.
Initially, the police increased Kriangkrai’s sentence for escaping legal control by approximately 8 months before escorting Kriangkrai back to the prison.
