Police puzzled by human bones found in metro Bangkok sewer

Police today were trying to determine who 28 skeletal remains discovered in a northwest metro sewer belonged to.

The skeletal remains pieces were discovered last night by 43-year-old contractor Witthaya Raktanakij, who said he was cleaning the sewer at around 10pm along the Ngam Wong Wan Expressway in Nonthaburi city with six others when they first found a skull about 6-meters down. They also found underwear amid the bones. That was when they decided to call the police.

The 28 bones recovered included pieces of arms, legs, a skull, ribs, a pelvis. They were pieced together by forensic scientists in order for police to examine.

A preliminary investigation suggested that the bones belonged to a man who died at least seven months ago. It was unlikely that he died in the sewer as highway officials said the manhole cover was closed and made of steel weighing around 80…
