Police investigate cricket star’s island death

SURAT THANI: Police are investigating the death of former Australia cricket star Shane Warne, who was found unconscious in a villa on Friday while holidaying on Koh Samui.

The 52-year-old was pronounced dead after unsuccessful resuscitation attempts.

Warne, who checked in at the villa on Thursday, was found by his friends at about 5pm, police said, citing statements given by witnesses.

One of the friends, a medical doctor, started CPR after Warne didn’t respond to attempts to wake him, said Kittichai Huatmaung, a volunteer rescuer.

News reports said the friend went to check on him as they were due to meet some mates.

Warne was later rushed to a nearby hospital even though he didn’t regain his vital signs after resuscitation attempts, said Mr Kittichai, adding that no signs of struggle were found at the scene.
