Pig farmers ‘aim to hold prices’ steady

Govt wants farmgate held at B100/kg

Pig farmers have announced their support of the Commerce Ministry’s policy to keep farmgate prices at 100 baht per kilogramme despite rising costs.

Sitthipan Thanakiatpinyo, chairman of the association of pig farmers in the Northeast, said farmers nationwide agreed to maintain farmgate prices in support of efforts to rehabilitate the economy.

However, he said farmers are waiting to see how the government will address rising production costs which mainly relate to feed costs and livestock health.

He said output dropped by 50% after the spread of African swine fever (ASF), while adding there was no hording of supply by farmers and that prices rose due to increased feed costs.
