Phi Phi

Staying at Kata in September and we want to do a Phi Phi island day tour . Resort offers a catamaran or speed boat tour .
Is it safe in monsoon season to go via speedboat ? I’ve heard that it can be a bit of a wild ride .
Also are you able to snorkel or are the currents too strong in September?
My other question is due to it being monsoon season are we better off just taking the ferry and looking around Phi Phi and forgetting about an organised tour . ( I have a crap knee so access is important).
