PH monitoring cigarette dispute settlement with Thailand – The Manila Times

The Philippines has agreed with Thailand to a facilitator-led process to have a
comprehensive solution to the latter’s non-compliance to a World Trade Organization (WTO) ruling involving Philippine tobacco product.

“In Geneva, the Philippines has agreed with Thailand to a facilitator-led process to try to have a comprehensive solution to the issues under the DS 371 (cigarette dispute settlement),” said Trade Undersecretary Ceferino Rodolfo during a recent virtual briefing.
Rodolfo said it is closely monitoring the progress in the facilitator-led process.

“However, the Philippines, following WTO rules and procedures, [is ready] to initiate the process of suspension for concessions,” said Rodolfo.

The official said the Tariff Commission has already conducted a public hearing to get feedback from stakeholders on the coverage of products that the Philippines may suspend…
