Pattaya Police on Saturday evening arrested two teens on a motorbike who threw a Molotov cocktail at a couple in Pattaya and seriously injured them a few days earlier.
Yesterday, March 18th, two impetuous teens including a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old were arrested by police after they attacked an innocent couple with a Molotov cocktail, Mr. Thanakorn Pangsen, 21 and his girlfriend Ms. Worakarn Petchkui, 21.
The attack took place Saturday in the early morning (March 18th) near an intersection on Poethisarn Road that intersected with Soi North Pattaya 2 in Naklua.
Mr. Thanakorn told police that he was riding a motorbike with his girlfriend before someone threw a glass bottle at them. Fire sparked on them before they fell off the motorbike. They had no idea what happened and said they did not have problems with anyone.
The teens were clearly recorded on CCTV footage throwing the weapon at the couple before speeding away on their motorbike. The couple suffered serious burns on their bodies and were rushed to a hospital by rescue workers. They later told police that they did not know the attackers.
After the incident, Pattaya Police immediately began an investigation and quickly identified the two suspects. Police said at a press briefing that the 17-year-old teen was a Cambodian national. They were arrested along with six of their friends whom the officers said might have been involved in the incident.
Their motorbike was seized. The teens alleged they intended to avenge their rival but attacked the wrong people. The suspects revealed they learned how to make a Molotov cocktail from social media and bought the materials to make it from an online store.
The two did not have a prior criminal history on record, said police. However, they have been charged with jointly attacking others and illegal possession of an explosive object.
