Beach umbrella operators have been permitted by the Pattaya City to operate overnight on the New year’s Eve in order to facilitate tourists.
In a meeting held yesterday, December 21st, Deputy Mayor of Pattaya City Mr. Wuttisak Rermkijakarn laid out several new regulations and practices for beach umbrella operators in the city. Over 150 operators attended the gathering, alongside other senior city officials.
According to Mr. Wuttisak, all beach umbrellas must now adhere to a consistent size of 9×7 meters. Operators are also mandated to neatly store their equipment after each day of operation. Permitted business hours are defined as 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM on weekdays and 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM on weekends and holidays.
However, operators will be able to continue their businesses beyond these hours to midnight on festival days such as the firework festival or Loy Krathong festival, said Mr. Wuttisak.
Responding to concerns raised at the meeting, the mandatory weekly closure day for beach umbrella businesses has been shifted from Wednesday to Thursday. Additionally, closure requirements differ based on season: twice monthly during the high season (November to April) and on the second and fourth weeks of each month during the low season (May to October). Public holidays falling on designated closure days necessitate closure on the following day.
Recognizing the increased tourist influx during the upcoming New Year celebrations, special provisions have been made for December 31st, 2023. According to the deputy mayor, beach umbrella operators will be allowed to start operations as early as 6:00 AM on December 31st until 6:00 AM on January 1st, 2024, and expand their covered area from the standard 9×7 meters to 9×15 meters. Mr. Wuttisak stated that this flexibility aimed to cater to tourist demand and stir up economy.
He added that it is important for operators to provide friendly services to customers, highlighting the vital role of local businesses in creating a positive impression on tourists and encouraging their return to Pattaya in the future.
