Pattaya Authorities Inspect Allegedly Unauthorized Construction on Koh Larn

Pattaya —

The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) on Thursday, November 9th, conducted an on-site investigation regarding the allegedly unauthorized construction of buildings encroaching on public land near the beach on Koh Larn, Pattaya City.

Ms. Oranit Sukbun, the Director of NACC District 2, led a team of city officers to examine the questionable sites located on Koh Larn. The investigation was initiated in response to complaints from the public regarding the construction of several structures reportedly violating the public beach on the island.

The team collaborated with officers from the Port Authority of Thailand, the Social Anti-Corruption Network of Chonburi Province, the Pattaya Municipal Office – Koh Larn Branch, and Koh Larn community leaders, along with the media, during this on-site inspection.

Ms. Oranit revealed that concerned citizens had come to the NACC and alleged that certain state officials were allegedly seeking personal benefits from construction activities in areas designated for public use, such as resorts and restaurants. The names of these venues were not disclosed.

The team, after conducting a boat survey around the island, convened to hear public opinions and discuss solutions at the Pattaya Municipal Office. Ms. Oranit explained that the investigation aimed to understand the origin and nature of the problem. She also mentioned that the matter is in a legal process, which involves ongoing legal battles between the state and the business owners.

Ms. Oranit ensured that the NACC will urgently address any wrongdoing on the public land to protect the environment. If citizens witness corruption or misconduct by government officials, they can report it to the NACC hotline at 1206.
