Pathum tipped for glory as top Thai league gets underway

The domestic football season kicks off on Friday with champions BG Pathum United seen as the favourites to retain the Thai League 1 title.

With a new coach in Australian Aurelio Vidmar, the Rabbits beat FA Cup winners Chiang Rai United 1-0 in the Thailand Champions Cup match on Wednesday.

Although the match was just a curtain-raiser to the new season, the victory would help boost Pathum United’s confidence in their defence of the T1 crown.

“The win will be a motivation for us and give us confidence ahead of the new season,” Vidmar said.

Vidmar, 54, replaces Dusit Chalermsan who left the Rabbits after guiding them to their first ever title in the top flight last season….
