Over 50% of Hamas hostages hold foreign nationalities, Thailand records highest fatalities: says Israel | TOI Original

The Israeli government has made a shocking revelation regarding the hostages held by Hamas. Out of approximately 220 hostages, over half held foreign passports from 25 different countries. Among these hostages, 54 were Thai nationals. Tragically, following an unexpected attack by Hamas fighters on southern Israel, approximately 1,400 casualties were reported. Of the hostages, 138 had foreign passports, which may include dual Israeli nationality in some cases. Thai and Nepalese hostages were likely without Israeli citizenship. Other hostages came from China, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, and the Philippines. Thailand had the highest number of confirmed fatalities and missing among foreign nationals, with 24 confirmed killed and 21 individuals currently missing. The United States, Ukraine, France, Russia, China, and Nepal also suffered significant losses.
