The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for the state’s east coast ahead of a deluge expected to bring hundreds of millimetres of rain over the next four days.
Sydney, the Illawarra and Central Tablelands should prepare for heavy rainfall and an increased risk of flash flooding from Saturday, as temperatures hover between 11 and 19 degrees.
The bureau on Friday forecast a weekend of hazardous wind and surf conditions, warning those on school holidays to adjust their plans accordingly.
“The rain really starts to build tomorrow over Sydney and the Illawarra, and then it continues in those areas for a few days,” meteorologist Jane Golding said on Friday.
The Illawarra and Sydney regions should expect up to 90 millimetres of rain on Sunday, with strong 35km/h winds to lash the city.
