A police investigation into a scam targeting travelers to Thailand is creeping forward, one of the investigators said today.
A week after Coconuts reported on a scam targeting those booking stays with at least one authorized quarantine hotel, Nobpa Thongbo of the Lumphini Police Station said Friday that investigators have completed interviews all of available witnesses, including staff at the Hope Land Sukhumvit 8 hotel.
He said the hotel had filed a complaint on Jan. 27. Nobpa said they had not forwarded the case to the police cybercrime division as he had yet to thoroughly review the emails and bank accounts evidence shows were used by the scammers, meaning he does not have any suspects as yet.
The scam came to light amid growing complaints online that people trying to book quarantine stays at the hotel ended up doing so through scammers who pocketed their money….
