Commuters should plan ahead if their trips involve the Chao Phraya River because its popular express boats will no longer run on weekends and holidays starting Saturday.
Operator of the Chao Phraya Express Boat announced it will suspend all services Saturdays, Sundays and on public holidays this week onward. While it didn’t provide the logic behind the decision, it likely stems from reduced ridership as Bangkok faces its pandemic third wave.
Residents took the news poorly and complained about reduced availability of public transport, coming one week after Bangkok’s largest bus provider made good on plans to reduce trips.
“It would be better to decrease trips during non-rush hours. Please reconsider to help with the current commuters’ costs,” Jirapa Mitchriengrat wrote.
