New Thai League 1 season starts Aug 13

The 2021 Thai League 1 season has been postponed until Aug 13 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) said on Wednesday.

The move was agreed at a meeting between FAT and participating club officials yesterday.

The league was originally scheduled to kick off on July 31 and the postponement was due to a new wave of coronavirus cases.

The season’s curtain-raiser will now take place with Thailand Champions Cup match between the Thai League 1 champions (BG Pathum United) and FA Cup winners (Chiang Rai United) on Aug 8.

The Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) has told its 88 sports associations to cancel or postpone events with large crowds to be in line with the government’s Covid-19 protocols.
