New app to help solve disappearance cases

An application is being launched on Wednesday that will help people report missing people and unidentified bodies.

The Central Institute of Forensic Science (CIFS) has developed an app called “U Nai” (Where Are You?) to centralise information and thus provide for faster identification of those involved.

Since 2015, the CIFS has collected vast amounts of information through its work in storing bodies and investigating missing people.

Included in its records are fingerprints, the facial and body features of the missing people and, in the case of unidentified bodies, the cause of death.

CIFS director Songsak Raksaksakul said the institute’s database currently has records on 3,170 missing people and 5,360 unclaimed bodies.

Of the bodies, 2,643 have been positively identified and the institute also keeps about 1,500 skeletons, which have not been identified.
