I bet there are endless amounts of this type of post on here everyday and you guys are probably sick of seeing them but after researching Thailand for the past few hours and reading other posts, guides etc I figured I wouldn’t mind some advice/tips/info on the following:
My friend group and I (10x 18-19yo M) from Australia are all keen to book a boys trip at the end of the year and we all liked the idea of SE Asia, Thailand has been suggested multiple times.
So far the trip is just an idea and a bit of looking into but I was torn between going to Phuket (Patong), Krabi (Railey Beach), or maybe Pattaya (although there seems to be a consensus that 18 is too young and it would be too full on at an early age). We’d love a good party town – some cool night clubs / beach parties / boat parties / festivals, but also keen on somewhere we could explore during the day with awesome views, beaches, crystal water, nature, opportunities for hikes or kayaking etc. From my understanding Thailand is super strict on drugs so we’d just stick to alcohol + weed (would love to try a shroom shake but if its too risky not a dealbreaker), would we have issues drinking / getting into places or buying weed at 18/19 as I’ve noticed the “legal” age is 20.
We all plan to continue to save up for the rest of the year and get a nice villa for something like 10 days where we’d all stay. Looked at a few places would a 15min walk from the beach/city center be suitable? From what I’ve heard Bolt and Indriver look like our best bet. (Want to stay clear from the bikes as I feel like thats just an accident waiting to happen).
What’s the safety like, would we be ok getting home after a night out if we stuck as a group or would we be more susceptible to be taken advantage of as people realise we’re a group of young blokes. Should we leave passports at home or carry them on our person etc.
Also curious as to what we should budget for daily spending: as I said we’re all happy to save up a decent amount if it means we have a blast over there, so rough estimates on how much we’d spend a day on alc, activities, massages, transport, food etc (excluding accomodation).
And of course, curious about what the girls situation, read a bit into Patong and it seems like it’s pretty much only prostitutes and if we went out and wanted to bring a girl back it would cost us the next morning. We don’t have issues picking up back home in Australia so I’m wondering if this would remain consistent in Thailand, are there many female tourists or would we be sticking to sex workers. Have no issue with whatever the situation is just wouldn’t mind knowing what to expect before booking a trip there (am aware of the necessity of condoms and inflated risks of STDs).
I like to think my groups pretty mature for a group of 18 year olds (would be respectful of the city / locals etc, and not obnoxious frat bros who think we rule the world), but just hoping for us to have a really fun holiday abroad that we can all look back on some great memories.
I really appreciate anyone willing to take the time to read this and give me their 2 cents.
TLDR; group of 10 18-19 year old boys looking for travel advice on where to go in Thailand or if we should check out somewhere else in SE Asia (don’t want to be dickheads overseas just want a fun trip).
