Navy officers ‘faked’ drug evidence

Help Crime Victim Club chairman Achariya Ruangrattanapon yesterday filed a police complaint against 16 naval officers accusing them of fabricating narcotics evidence for rewards.

Mr Achariya yesterday led local officials from Nong Khai province to file the complaint with the Royal Thai Police’s Anti-Corruption Division.

The navy officers were accused of hiring two men, who were navy officers, to transfer two million speed pills and 116 kilogrammes of methamphetamine impounded by local officials during a crackdown that netted a boat on the Mekong River on Jan 10.

According to the complaint, the owners of the boat ran away, but two armed men who said they were naval officers took away the impounded drugs.

The local officials later learned that a press conference was held by the 16 navy officers displaying the drugs, it said.
