National Gallery presents Xieyi art

Dozens of classic Chinese ink paintings are showcased during “Chinese Xieyi: Art From The National Art Museum Of China” which kicks off today and runs until Feb 18 next year, at the Main Building of the National Gallery of Thailand.

Held to mark diplomatic relations between China and Thailand which were established nearly half-a-century ago and the 60th anniversary of the founding of the National Art Museum of China, the exhibition brings an exceptionally curated selection of 63 pieces of paintings and sculptures by 42 famous artists from China.

Meaning “writing the meaning down”, Xieyi is a form of traditional Chinese painting characterised by vivid expression and bold outlines. The technique is marked by exaggerated forms and freehand brushwork to express the idea or thoughts in an artist’s heart or mind.
