Hollywood star Naomi Watts has revealed how she played a real-life woman who formed a fond friendship with a baby magpie in the inspirational new Aussie film Penguin Bloom.
The Oscar-nominated actress stars in the true survival story of Samantha Bloom, an active Aussie mum who is left paralysed from the chest down following an accident in Thailand.

Her struggle to push ahead is helped along by a wounded baby magpie her family takes in, named Penguin.
The extraordinary true story had previously been told in the 2016 book Penguin Bloom: The Odd Little Bird Who Saved a Family.
Watts told Sunrise she worked closely with Samantha to prepare to for the role, describing her as an “extraordinary woman” with “so much resilience”.
