Multiple-Vehicle Crash on Rattanathibet Road in Nonthaburi Leaves Many Injured, Driver Found Intoxicated

Nonthaburi—

At 11:30 AM, on February 10th, 2024, Bang Bua Thong police officers received a multi-vehicle accident report causing many injuries on Rattanathibet Road, Bang Bua Thong, Nonthaburi.

Bang Bua Thong police and rescue teams were dispatched to the accident scene and found 7 crashed vehicles blocking traffic lanes. The rescue teams rescued the victims from their vehicles and performed first aid before transferring them to local hospitals.

The police facilitated the traffic and relocated the crashed vehicles in one hour before opening the traffic lanes normally, according to the police.

Mr. Anupong Changsorn, 29, one of the victims, told the police that he and his girlfriend were driving as normal on Rattanathibet Road. As the traffic was slowing, a blue 6-wheel truck suddenly crashed into Anupong’s sedan from behind without a sign of slowing down. The blue truck also forced its way through six other vehicles until it stopped, said Anupong.

The blue truck driver, publicly identified only as Mr. Sapanan, 44, appeared to be intoxicated and unintelligibly told the police that he allegedly did not know how he crashed into other vehicles and reportedly admitted that he drank alcoholic beverages “just a little“.

The police gathered video footage from car dash cams and conducted alcohol tests on the blue truck driver. It was reported that the alcoholic content in Sapanan’s blood system was 88 mg%.

According to Thai law, alcoholic content in the blood system of more than 50 mg% is considered illegal.
The police escorted Sapanan to the Bang Bua Thong police station for further legal processing.
