Mueang district, Chonburi —

A motorcyclist, who was trying to carry a television he received as a New Year’s gift home after work, died after crashing into a minivan in the Mueang district of Chonburi.

The victim, Mr. Witoon Tuphet, was found deceased by Chonburi rescuers with severe facial injuries on Wednesday, December 28th. He was 39-years-old and was driving his Honda Wave 125 motorbike home while carrying a boxed LED television when he crashed into a white minivan in the opposite lane.

The exact size of the television wasn’t given to the press.

The victim’s motorbike and TV were completely destroyed, with TV parts scattered around the road. Rescuers said the TV was tied to the back of the victim. The minivan driver, Mr. Komsan Thangthong, 42, told local media that the victim was traveling at high speed. His motorbike then staggered out of control and crashed into the front of his van. Mr. Komsan said he already tried to brake but failed.

Mueang police assumed that the victim may have been given a TV as a New Year’s gift and was trying to transport it home by tying it to his back. This likely hindered the victim’s driving, causing him to crash, however, police would review CCTV footage later to determine the exact cause of the accident.
