Most eligible voters 40+ for upcoming Thai election

Roughly one in 13 of the 52 million people eligible to vote in the upcoming general election would be voting for their first time, according to demographics publicized by the Election Commission.

The commission said that just more than 52.3 million across Thailand’s 400 electoral constituencies will be able to cast a ballot, up to 4 million of which will be first-time voters (18-22), accounting for 7.67% of all voters.

While polling shows younger voters disproportionately support progressive candidates, the elderly will continue to hold sway, with 27.5% of all voters being 59 and up. Roughly three in five voters will be 42 or older. 

Around 7 million citizens were eligible to vote for their first time in the previous election held in 2019, which had been the first conducted since 2014.
