Mom wanted nothing to do with baby abandoned by Bangkok canal

A woman who found an infant abandoned by its mother on the edge of a canal in the northern metro area handed him over to a state orphanage this afternoon.

The 11-month-old infant, whose mother was seen trying repeatedly to hand the baby off to passers-by before leaving it by a Bang Bua Thong district canal, will reside at a government shelter as a ward of the state two days after she was discovered.

“Be a good boy,” Supattra Ajhan, 24, captioned a video of the moment.

She found the baby girl Monday evening at the Ta Khlai canal in Nonthaburi province on her way back from her boyfriend’s house in Bang Yai. Supatrra said the infant was found with a bottle of milk, handful of children’s clothing, and a signed birth certificate so she could be adopted by the Social Development and Human Security Ministry.
