Memoria opens at Sudbury Indie Cinema on Friday

This coming week is likely your only chance to see the elusive indie film, Memoria, in Northern Ontario. From June 24-30, Sudbury Indie Cinema, 162 Mackenzie St., is screening the film, from award-winning director Apichatpong Weerasethakul of Thailand.

Weerasethakul is renowned in world cinema circles and winner of the most prestigious award at Cannes, the Palme d’Or. Memoria is the first film he has made outside Thailand. It features an international cast led by the phenomenal Tilda Swinton.

Memoria is dubbed a sci-fi drama and circles on Swinton’s character, a Scottish traveler in Columbia who starts hearing strange sounds. The film has garnered 25 awards and nominations, including the win at Cannes 2021.
