On December 23rd, 2023, Si Mahosot police officers launched a search operation on a shrimp farm in Si Mahosot, Prachinburi, according to a search warrant from the Prachinburi Provincial Court. There were more than 100 firearms and ammunition of 1,000 units reported found at the farm.
According to a report by the police, a worker who was publicly identified as Ms. Pornthip Phumisawat, 49, said to the police that the guns and ammunition were owned by Mr. S, 48, as he was allegedly obsessed with firearm collections. His name was withheld pending further police investigation as he may have legally purchased the firearms.
From the police investigation, it was reported that the firearms and ammunition showed in records as registered by Mueang Phitsanulok officials, 37 issued certificates, and Chachoengsao officials, 4 issued certificates.
However, during the police operation, Sumet was not at the shrimp farm. The police officers would investigate further on the documentation whether the firearms and ammunition had valid permission or not.
Pol. Col. Somkiat Pensirisomboon, the Superintendent of Sri Mahosot Police Station, publicly revealed that after receiving an order from the Thai police technology department to search the targeted areas in Prachinburi, the police performed the search on the shrimp farm.
However, the information was not accurate, and further investigation was necessary to determine whether the owner was guilty or not, said Pol. Col. Somkiat.
