National —

Thailand has welcomed 13 million international tourists from the beginning of this year to June 25th, with Malaysian tourists spearheading the influx.

This remarkable number is considered a 63.5% increase compared to the pre-COVID-19 outbreak in 2019, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.

It is also five times higher than the same period in 2022.

Among these arrivals, the top five countries, including Malaysia, China, India, South Korea, and Vietnam contribute to over 48.6%.

It should be noted that Malaysia experienced the highest surge with a staggering growth rate of 56.51%. On the other hand, India saw a decline of 7.49%, while China and Vietnam saw respective decreases of 2.94% and 2.90%.

In the past week alone, Thailand welcomed 104,991 tourists from Malaysia, 82,561
from China, 33,908 from India, 28,926 from South Korea, and 26,021 from
Vietnam. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports aims to collectively accommodate at least 27.39 million tourists by the end of this year.

In July, the ministry forecasts to see 2.29 million foreign visitors. They also predict that over 500,000 tourists mainly from ASEAN countries, East Asia, and Europe, will travel to Thailand within the next week.

On average, the nation has been receiving approximately 81,295 international tourists per day. As of July 3rd, 2023, the accumulated number of foreign arrivals for the year has reached over 13,033,876 in total, generating substantial revenue of 538.15 billion Baht for the country.
