Low-lying areas in North, Isan warned of reservoir discharge

The Office of the National Water Resources (ONWR) yesterday warned that nine major reservoirs now hold too much water and will have to speed up discharging it, which will inevitably affect low-lying areas downstream.

In a new announcement issued yesterday, the ONWR said it was closely monitoring the country’s water situation as a monsoon trough continues to prevail in the North and Northeast, resulting in heavy rain in these areas at the moment.

A deluge of run-off is therefore expected in river basins and reservoirs in these parts of the country from now until tomorrow, which might result in these reservoirs having to discharge excess water faster from tomorrow until next Wednesday, said the…
