Limit to how players can protest in Qatar, say England’s Kane and Southgate

England captain will wear a “one love” multi-coloured armband at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar

MILAN: England manager Gareth Southgate and captain Harry Kane believe there is a limit to how much players can protest human rights issues at the World Cup in Qatar later this year.

Kane will join forces with the skippers of seven other European nations in wearing a “one love” armband featuring a multi-coloured heart.

Homosexuality is illegal in Qatar and organisers have sought to reassure rights groups that same-sex couples will not face action at the tournament, which starts on Nov 20.
