Legendary hotpot place Coca closes its Siam Square shop

Coca, a Cantonese-style hotpot restaurant serving Siam Square for more than five decades said today is its last day there.

Just a day after Bangkok restaurants were allowed to reopen for dine-in services, Coca Holding, Coca’s parent company, cited the end of its lease, the pandemic and the resulting economic instability as reasons for calling it quits in Siam Square. 

It’s other restaurants will continue to operate. Representatives of the company also said they are looking to scale down their size in order to adapt to Bangkok’s changing dining habits.

Based on the word for “appetizing” in Mandarin, Coca launched in Thailand in 1957 as a Cantonese restaurant with 20 seats. Today, it claims more than 60 restaurants in 14 countries. 

Other branches of Coca remain open as usual, albeit in adherence to the dining restrictions enacted by Thai government…
