Land bridge ‘won’t affect security’

Anutin ‘sure’ scheme will boost economy

The Interior Ministry has expressed support for the country’s Land Bridge megaproject, saying the government will not build a canal that could affect national security.

Speaking during a lecture yesterday, Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said the project was initiated by the previous government. The current government will promote the project, he said, adding it must take action now.

The project will see the creation of two deep-sea ports — one on the Andaman coast in Ranong and another along the coast of Chumphon by the Gulf of Thailand, he said.
