Korat sugar cane mill given 30 days to control dust

A sugar cane mill in Nakhon Ratchasima has been given 30 days to control the excessive dust caused by its operations after it was found causing high levels of PM10 in surrounding areas.

Nakhon Ratchasima deputy governor Charin Thongsuk said local people had been complaining about the dust caused by sugar cane bagasse and the loud noises coming from machines at the mill run by the Korat Industry Co, Ltd.

The plant later told the province that it had tried to control the pollution but dust and noise had somehow returned, the deputy governor said. He suggested concerned agencies provide the mill with suitable instructions to tackle the problem.

Affected people could have their health checked with the company fronting the cost, Mr Charin said.
