Khaosan night clubs brace for closure after COVID spread NYE

Khaosan Road faces closures after an outbreak of COVID-19 among party-goers there this past weekend.

Disease control workers were inspecting venues today after at least 10 people tested positive at a nightlife venue during the run-up to New Year’s Eve on Thursday and Friday, according to the head of the local business association.

The road was to undergo disinfection Tuesday afternoon, and the city may announce closures impacting the street. Other reports said at least 25 others were infected at a second Khaosan night club.

Sa-nga Ruangwattanakul, president of the Khaosan Road Business Association, said that while nothing official had been announced, bars and restaurants may opt to close for peace of mind.

“We made sure our staff were tested regularly to ensure the safety of others,” Sa-nga told Coconuts today
