It’s not easy being Ryder Cup captain

Over the years, I’m sure there has been a few of my students who would have loved to have inflicted physical pain on me, therefore, I had to laugh when I heard that during the final round of last week’s BMW PGA Championship, Italy’s Francesco Laporta hit his swing coach on the left side of his head with an errant shot on the par-four 13th hole.

It was a painful round for Laporta’s swing coach Pietro Consenza as he had to be treated and bandaged by medical personnel at Wentworth. He was noticeably bleeding underneath the wrapping, but commendably whilst, undoubtedly in pain, he stayed to watch his student finish.

Meanwhile, Billy Horschel made it clear of what he thought of not being picked by captain Steve Stricker for the US Ryder Cup team, and his impressive win last week at the BMW PGA Championship did rather send the message and underline to the selection…
