My partner and I are planning our first trip to Thailand this winter. This is roughly what we were thinking:
Day 1: arrive in Bangkok
Day 2: full day in Bangkok
Day 3: Bangkok, then sleeper train to Chiang Mai
Day 4-6: Chiang Mai
Day 7: fly to Phuket
Day 8-10: Phuket
Day 11: back to Bangkok for flight home
I’m wondering if it would make sense to shave off a day in Phuket to have more time in Bangkok, or if it would make sense to divide our time in the south between Phuket and another island.
Also wondering if it is worth doing the train to Chiang Mai vs flying since we are on a short trip?
I would say that our priorities for this trip are going on a couple of really great hikes, visiting an elephant sanctuary, and experiencing as much of the culture as we can in such a short amount of time. Interested in some night life but that is definitely not the priority. We also love being by the water but wouldn’t want to spend all day, each day at the beach while we are in the south.
