I’ve been visiting Chiang Mai for a few years and I’ve almost always ridden on motorbikes either as a passenger or as the driver. Weirdly, I never worried too much about potential safety risks, but the older I get the more reckless it seems to me to be on a motorbike in Thailand full stop. How much of an inconvenience would it be to just order Grab taxis everywhere during a vacation in Chiang Mai? Or perhaps just rent a bike for riding inside the old town where fewer accidents occur?
Is it reckless to ride on a motorbike in Chiang Mai?
