Sam Bennett won his first one day World Tour race on Wednesday
BRUSSELS – Form sprinter Ireland’s Sam Bennett will be a marked man at Sunday’s Belgian cycling classic, the epic 254km Gent-Wevelgem.
The 2020 Tour de France sprint king has hit a rich vein of form with five wins so far in 2021.
He also rides for the master tacticians of the Belgian Deceuninck Quick-Step team for whom the Spring classics are the season’s real target.
The nature of the Gent-Wevelgem course has led half of the past 10 races to finish in a sprint.
If that happens Sunday the gentle giant Bennett is the current fastest man in the business having forged a close understanding with his sprint lead-out man, the veteran Michael Morkov.
