Injured Aussie woman set to fly home from Thailand, as family makes donation to bus crash victims

As a seriously injured woman prepares to be flown home to Australia on the back of community generosity, her husband says it’s “only fitting” that he makes a significant donation to the victims of the Singleton bus crash.

Kylee and Paul Enwright are from Singleton and have connections with the attendees of a wedding who were injured or killed in the tragedy on Sunday.

Paul Enwright said his son plays for the Singleton Roosters footy club — to which bride and groom Madeleine Edsell and Mitchell Gaffney are also connected — while his daughter went to school with one of the victims.

He has now donated $1000 to a GoFundMe set up by the club to support the victims and their loved ones.

“Singleton, Hunter and the wider Australian community have reached deep into their pockets” to support his wife Kylee while she recovers from a critical head injury from a fall in Thailand, he said.

“I felt it only fitting that I needed to contribute, to pass on the good that I have received onto you when you need it the most,” he wrote on the GoFundMe.

“My heart goes out to all involved and I truly hope that you can start to rebuild.”

The campaign for Kylee has surpassed the $200,000 needed to medically evacuate her, which Paul hopes will happen over the weekend.

He said she had been “improving every day” but the family believes she will have the best chance of recovery in Australia.

“She had a bit of a milestone yesterday when she started clicking her fingers at me, once or twice,” he told Sunrise.

“She’s alert. She’s following your voice around the room. She’s got movement now on her right side.

“(We’re) really relieved, to get out of Thailand and into the Australian medical system. It’s her best opportunity for her to improve and regain the person we know she is.”

He said it was “really humbling that Australia has got behind her so much, and behind our family”.

Kylee’s case made headlines last week when 7NEWS and 7NEWS.com.au revealed her travel insurance would not cover her significant medical costs because she had been drinking when she fell at her hotel in Phuket.

Paul Enwright claimed the insurer Cover-More had overestimated the effect of the alcohol she had consumed.
