India’s COVID-19 tally rises to 29,274,823, Thailand’s new infections hit 10-day low

The following are the latest developments of the COVID-19 pandemic in Asia-Pacific countries on Friday:

BANGKOK — Thailand recorded 2,290 new COVID-19 infections, the lowest increase within 10 days, bringing its total cases to 189,828, according to the Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).

The new cases included 30 imported and 2,260 locally transmitted infections, of which 294 were detected in prisons, CCSA data showed.

Another 27 new fatalities were reported, taking the national death toll to 1,402.

MANILA — The Philippines’ Department of Health (DOH) reported 6,686 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 1,300,349.

The death toll climbed to 22,507 after 196 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH said.
