Indian Tourist Drowns in Pattaya Hotel Swimming Pool

Pattaya, Thailand-

A 44-year-old Indian tourist drowned in a hotel swimming pool last night, June 13th, 2023.

The incident occurred at 8:30 PM at a popular hotel in South Pattaya. The name of the hotel was withheld by Pattaya police, however, pending a further investigation of the incident.

The victim, Mr. Vivek Kumar, 44, was identified by Pattaya police after informing those close to him of the incident. According to a witness, Mongkhon Wichasawat, 22, Mr. Kumar had been playing in the pool with an Indian female, whose name was withheld, when he suddenly sank to the bottom of the pool.

At first the Indian female and witnesses thought Mr. Kumar was joking around as he had been diving and playing for some time. However, when he didn’t emerge after about a minute, witnesses yelled for security to help. Hotel security and Good Samaritans pulled Mr. Kumar out of the pool and immediately called rescue services.

Unfortunately, Sawang Boriboon Rescue Services despite their best efforts were unable to fully resuscitate Mr. Kumar who later passed away.

Pattaya Police stated they will review hotel CCTV and investigate the incident to determine what led to the drowning.
