in season

It was July in Chiang Mai and on Reddit the tourists would ask, “ we are thinking of coming to Chiang Mai in July and we’re concerned it might rain?”
But to my mind, in my six months of being there, July was the best of all the months so far, between December and march there wasn’t a single day of rain and the sky’s were blue and cloudless and 40 degree heat and the mountains and fields were yellow and brown the dust and petroleum fumes on the highways and all the smoke coming into the valley from the farmers burning their fields meant the air got dirtier and dirtier until one done day in April when the heavens poured down filling up the fields with water and the frogs hopped up the road and the monks prayed under pagodas dripping with rainwater, there was lightning and a wind and the green came back the mountains lush again.
