In Remembrance of His Royal Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great on October 13th, 2023

National –

This Friday, October 13th, marks the seven-year anniversary of the passing of His Royal Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) who passed away peacefully in 2016.

The Thai government is preparing events to observe the anniversary, a day that is also designated as a national holiday.

In Bangkok, a Buddhist chanting ceremony will be conducted at Sanam Luang at 7:30 AM on Friday, which will be attended by Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, cabinet ministers, government officials, their spouses, and members of the public.

Similar ceremonies will also occur in provinces at their respective provincial halls or other appropriate venues. Additionally, Thai embassies and consulates around the world have the option to organize similar events.

On this day, Thai people will wear yellow shirts to commemorate the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and his legacy of 70 years of hard work.

As a public holiday, government offices, banks, and immigration offices will be closed. There is, however, despite some confusion on social media, no alcohol sale bans.
