Sattahip police in partnership with the Central Bureau of Investigation arrested an alleged illegal gun dealer and seized three guns and almost a hundred cartridges Tuesday, December 27th.
The arresting police pretended to order a gun from the suspect and arrested him when he arrived in his vehicle at the rendezvous. The police then escorted the alleged gun dealer, 31-year-old Mr. Yosakorn Atharn, to his house in the Sattahip district of Chonburi where police found and impounded:
One .38 caliber revolver, one .38 caliber semi-automatic pistol with a cartridge magazine, another semi-automatic firearm, around 100 .38 cartridges, and two tools for modifying firearms. Yosakorn reportedly admitted that these items were his own.
The suspect had been illegally producing illegal firearms and selling them online for two months, according to police. The suspect said he learned to modify BB guns into working guns from YouTube and bought unmodified BB guns and parts from Lazada, an e-commerce platform.
The suspect also claimed he sold illegal firearms via an agent only identified as Phiw twice before he got arrested. These two times the suspect kept himself 15,900 baht and 14,900 baht while paying his agent 1,900 and 400 baht in commission. His agent is still on the loose, police said.
Initially, police charged the suspect with buying, using, or importing firearms or ammunition without permission, attempting to sell firearms or ammunition without permission, possessing firearms or ammunition without permission, and carrying firearms in public. Sattahip police would issue an arrest warrant on the suspect’s agent once they gathered enough evidence.
